New Sponsorship for 2024!

As we enter into the busy summer ahead we wanted to take a look at the clubs and sports teams we are sponsoring for the upcoming year! At Rural Roasts, we are all about promoting local communities which is why we love lending a hand to local organisations and teams in our area!

Studham Football Club

One of our favourite places to cater at, Studham Sports & Social Club have seen the revival of the old Football Team that folded several years ago. We thought it would be amazing to play a small part in helping bring back local Sunday league football back to the village. Already having won a league cup, they have big plans for next year already and we can’t wait to be a part of their journey!

Dunstable Town Cricket Club

Another local team only 5 minutes down the road from the Rural Roasts HQ, Dunstable Town Cricket club have recently installed a double lane, outdoor net. We were more than happy to get involved and help with the fundraising to improve the facilities for the several adult teams but also the women’s and junior teams too.

Bedford Ladies Tug of War

A rural sport with huge history and one we love to support! Bedford Ladies are doing superbly in their competitions and last year won a gold medal at The World Games in Alabama! We will be cheering them on for the 2024 season and hope we can help them be even more successful than they already are! Go Bedford!

Have you got a worthy cause in need of support?

We are always on the look out for worthwhile causes that need the support of local businesses. If you are fundraising or in need of some help, why not drop us an email and we’ll see if we can help?

Top 5 Questions We Get Asked at Events!

Answering all the common questions we get asked at events, the sensible ones and the funny ones too!

How Long Does It Take To Cook?

All of our roasts are cooked from fresh on the day of your event. For a standard hog roast, it usually takes around 6-7 hours to cook in our custom built roasters.

We also get asked where do we cook it too. We always cook outside in our gazebo which is usually only 3 metres squared (sometimes we use our bigger gazebos for bigger events, but we will always let you know beforehand). Protecting us from the weather elements, we can roast a whole hog anywhere from the middle of a field to your front garden!

How Many Does It Feed?

Another super common question! A hog roast can feed anywhere between 40 guests all the way up to 200! The largest pig we can roast is around 70kg which will feed up to 200 servings. For smaller events we roast pork joints like in the photo below.

How Do You Get Your Crackling Like That?

If we tell you, we’d have to shoot you! The process has been mastered over years of practice and trial and error. We baste the hog roast in oil, salt and our secret blend of herbs. Combine with the high heats of our roasters and a drizzle of apple cider at the end of the cooking, gives us the ultimate crunch!

Do You Carve The Meat or Pull It?

This comes up often. We use the traditional spit roast method of cooking our hogs. Meaning that we cook until the internal temperature is just perfect! The meat is carved in thin slices, not pulled, meaning the pork in your roll is succulent and juicy! Some hog roasts are cooked for hours and hours until the meat pulls of the bone but sometimes that can also dry the meat out. We prefer the traditional carving of the pork for the best results!

Where Are You Based?

We are based out of our family farm shop and butcher’s in Ivinghoe. Just outside of Leighton Buzzard we travel all over beds, bucks and herts and sometimes further!

Catering for the Local Pheasant & Partridge Shoot!

This year we were asked to cater for a local shoot, feeding the hard working beaters and hungry guns! Stuck for options that could accommodate muddy boots, wet clothes and unpredictable lunch times, the shoot were looking flexible, and most importantly, delicious catering! Introducing Rural Roasts!

Having mobile catering that could serve up lunch at the farm, removed the time spent travelling to other local venues, and allowed them more flexibility with timing; knowing they can be slightly later if a drive takes longer than expected!

Cooking British classics to feed up to 40 guests every Saturday, our aim was to use locally sourced produce and use the meat from the shoot itself, to serve up hearty winter warmers. So, from within the make shift lunch hall in the grain store, here’s some of the dishes we’ve served up so far!

All homemade, all using top quality ingredients! On the menu next week is Beef Stew and Dumplings, followed by Game Burgers, using the birds from the previous weeks shoot. Zero Food Miles!

So, if you are looking for smaller scale, affordable catering, with the flexibility to cater at your venue with delicious food, drop us an email or call us today and see how we can get your guests talking about your lunch!
